North Valley Career and Technology Center
North Valley CTC’s career and technology education (CTE) combines classroom instruction and lab work with on-the-job training to ensure 9-12 grade students can hit the ground running when they start their careers. North Valley’s programs include:
North Valley has six area school district members: Drayton, Grafton, Midway, Minto, Park River Area, and Valley-Edinburg. Construction will begin fall 2023 on a satellite North Valley site in Cavalier which will allow the opportunity to serve the additional 9-12 school districts of Cavalier, North Border and Langdon.
The career exploration and work-based learning programming offered to North Valley high school students includes job shadow experiences during the school year and summer internships. There are more than 140 area businesses involved in these programs! Now that’s what we call a Real. Good. opportunity!
At North Valley, students can explore a variety of industries from agriculture and auto tech to business education and marketing. Through classroom instruction, hands-on experiences, and on-the-job training, we’re empowering students to succeed and building the successful workforce of the future.
In addition, the Walsh-Pembina Technology Cooperative provides the opportunity for high school equipment to rotate between the member schools. This allows the cost of the equipment to be shared while giving students a chance to learn technical principals and develop fundamental skills. The high tech equipment provides hands-on experience with subjects such as virtual reality, alternative energy, CNC machining, and human physiology. The Cooperative is comprised of 12 schools including North Valley, Cavalier, Drayton, Fordville-Lankin, Grafton, Manvel, Midway, Minto, North Border Pembina, North Border Walhalla, Park River Area, and Valley Edinburg.

“As a student at Grafton High School, I’ve had the opportunity to explore different career paths at North Valley Career and Technical Center, including construction technology, business/marketing, agriculture, automotive technology, and obtaining my Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). All the CDL training and costs associated were covered by North Valley. When local employer heard I earned my CDL, they contacted me a few days later about a potential job!
What I appreciate most about living here is having North Valley, where high school students like me can explore careers and gain real-world experience. Through annual job shadowing and summer internships, I’ve been able to gain experiences that have helped me determine my plans after high school. It creates opportunities for students to discover what their future might look like, close to home.”
